The Story of Brooke & Matthew

Matt moved to Atlanta in the summer of 2000 to initially pursue Engineering, before switching to a life of acting. Brooke moved to Atlanta on January 1, 2005, to also pursue acting. It is not clear when her and Matt had first heard of each other, but the first confirmed meeting was September 15, 2006, when Brooke auditioned -and was called back- for one of Matt’s movies he was producing. Although she did not book the part, Matt knew she was great actress. Throughout the next year, Brooke and Matt found their paths crossing several times, at festivals, on commercial sets, and at auditions.

THE FATEFUL ENCOUNTER

On Friday, November 16, 2007, Matt and Brooke found themselves at the same audition. Brooke had already gone in to read, and was hanging around afterwards to chat with Matt. It was at that moment that Matt realized that she might be interested in him. After some casual flirting, Matt became confident that Brooke would be open to his courtship, so he contacted her over the weekend. The following week was Thanksgiving, and Matt accepted an invitation to hang out with Brooke and friends that Thursday night. The courtship had now officially begun.

THE FIRST DATE

On November 29, 2007, Matt escorted Brooke to the restaurant Portofino for their first date. Brooke had lost her voice, which meant Matt got to brag about himself all night, in an attempt to win Brooke over. It must have worked, because the following week was their 2nd date, and things took off from there.

VALENTINE’S DAY 2008

Fast forward to Valentine’s Day, 2008. Matt had cooked up a big surprise for Brooke. He contacted her acting agent, and convinced the agent to send Brooke on a fake audition. Matt had written a fake script, and even had a friend of his that Brooke didn’t know pose as the casting director. It went exactly according to plan. Matt was hiding in the audition room and came out during her audition, flowers in hand. She was completely taken off guard. To see the whole ordeal, check out the YouTube video:

(Incidentally, Brooke returned the favor later that day by getting a real casting director to pull a prank on Matt at an audition.)

MATT’S 30th BIRTHDAY

By the summer of 2008, Brooke and Matt were very much in love. For Matt’s 30th Birthday, Brooke surprised him with not only a party, but also the most amazing gift he had ever received: a photo album with writings from all the people from his past and present.

THE PROPOSAL

By the spring of 2009, Brooke and Matt had only fallen deeper in love. They had been on two cruises together, and had shared so many things together. They both had met each other’s families, and all the pieces were falling into place. So it was time for Matt to make the next move. While Brooke was working in northeastern Pennsylvania at Camp Wayne during the Summer of 2009, Matt put his next major plan into place. He asked one of Brooke’s close friends, Wendy, to help him pick out a ring. Next, he shot the cheesiest video of all time, set to music from the motion picture “Moulin Rouge”. With those two things done, he flew up to see Brooke at Camp Wayne (she knew he was coming to visit, so that didn’t arouse suspicion). On Monday, July 27, 2009, in Brooke’s room at Camp Wayne, Matt made Brooke watch the video. She did not suspect anything, even though Matt had carefully positioned himself so that he was already on one knee. When the video finished, Matt closed her laptop computer, revealing the ring he was holding the whole time. After a “yes!” and some tears, they celebrated the next few days, changing their Facebook statuses to “Engaged” and calling as many people as possible.

Now, as they embark on the next chapter in their lives, they are happier than ever.
